One fully funded PhD positions is available in the department of civil and environmental engineering at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), in the area of structural analysis and computational mechanics.

Recent advances in fiber optic sensing technologies provide new information on the reinforced concrete behavior, which still needs to be calibrated by simulation. The objective of the PhD project is to reproduce RC damage with advanced simulation (e.g., FE analysis based on cohesive zone model or peridynamics) on High Performance Computing clusters.

Your profile:
•        You have a master's or bachelor's degree in mechanics or structural engineering.
•        A strong background in solid mechanics is required.
•        Good programming skills is required.
•        Knowledge in peridynamics or parallel computing is of advantage but not mandatory.
•        You are proficient in spoken and written English.
