The Chair of Architectural Informatics at Technical University of Munich invites applications for the position of a Research Assistant (m/f/d) for performing research in the ARBIM4Factory project. The candidate has the opportunity to attain a doctoral degree (Ph.D.). Remuneration is 50% TVL E13, 2 years according to the German public sector rates. The interdisciplinary team of the Chair of Architectural Informatics is performing research in the broad field of digital methods in various disciplines of architecture. Particular emphasis is placed on Building Information Modelling in prefabricated timber construction, in early design phases and within existing buildings, as well as decision-supporting methods in urban planning and knowledge-based design methods. The PhD will be conducted in the frame of the project " ARBIM4Factory – Augmented Reality for interactive exploitation of building and production data using Building Information Modeling" funded by the KME - Kompetenzzentrum Mittelstand. The project is carried out in close cooperation with the Fraunhofer IGCV and partners in the practical field. In this research project, practice-oriented methods are developed and prototypically implemented. Information and data relevant for conversion planning activities, both from production and from the building, are to be comprehensively linked in a BIM model. In addition, this information and data will be interactively visualized in a real production environment using augmented reality. The aim is to develop a guideline for the situation-dependent choice of AR technologies in the production environment as well as the concept for an interactive AR representation of production data and BIM models. Prototypical implementations and validations based on use-case scenarios will be carried out. For applying for this position, the candidate should be interested in new technologies and have basic knowledge in the field of Augmented Reality and its implementation in e.g. Unity, Vuforia, or Dalux. Knowledge in architecture / civil engineering and especially in the field of knowledge modelling and the methodology of Building Information Modelling are very beneficial. An explicit interest in interdisciplinary work at the interface of computer science and architecture is an important requirement for this position. Excellent English or German communication skills are essential and an understanding of or a strong willingness to learn the German language is necessary to complete the task.
